How to Use An Airless Paint Sprayer ?
To use an airless paint sprayer successfully, prepare the area, follow the machine’s startup sequence and practise on a test panel before painting the finished surface. This beginner checklist focuses on the decisions that prevent common first-job problems.
Before you open the paint
- Read the equipment manual and identify the power switch, pressure control, prime/spray valve and trigger lock.
- Check the coating data sheet for spraying suitability, tip size, application conditions and cleanup.
- Inspect the pressure-rated hose, gun, guard, tip and connections. Do not use damaged components.
- Mask adjacent surfaces, clear hose routes and arrange ventilation and the required protective equipment.
Airless injection injuries can be serious even when the skin mark looks small. Never point the gun at anyone, put a hand in front of the tip or touch a leak. A tip guard reduces accidental contact but does not make the spray safe to touch.
Use the correct startup instructions
Prime the pump, fill the hose and install the approved tip and guard using your model’s instructions and pressure-relief steps. The general process is similar across many machines, but valve positions, grounding and fluid-handling requirements vary. Do not run the pump dry while deciding what to do next. if you find the machine doesn’t suck the paint, power off the machine quickly to check the problem. otherwise the moving parts could be damanged due to dry move which cause over heating.
Before you spray the paint, we DP always recommend you to try with water first, just to make sure you know the procedure of the operation, you know how to set the pressure, and how to assemble the spray tip / tip gasket / tip guard correctly.
Practise three things on a test panel
- Pattern: confirm a consistent fan without heavy tails. Use the lowest effective pressure within the coating and equipment limits.
- Movement: keep the gun square to the surface at the recommended distance. Start moving before triggering and release before stopping.
- Overlap: keep adjacent passes consistent; approximately half-fan overlap is a common starting point. Verify the required film build rather than applying repeated passes by guesswork.
Work around corners and edges
Plan a sequence so you can maintain access and avoid leaning over wet work. Edges and corners can receive paint from more than one pass, so control dwell and overlap. A spray shield helps only when positioned correctly and cleaned as needed; it does not replace masking or safe handling.
For porous or textured surfaces, back-brush or back-roll when the coating instructions require it. Spraying places the coating; the specified finishing method ensures the intended result.
Know when to stop
Stop if the pattern changes, material supply runs low, the machine leaks or the motor behaves abnormally. Follow the approved unclogging procedure for the actual tip. Relieve pressure before removing components or cleaning the guard. Do not wipe the tip with a finger.
Finish the job properly
Perform the complete pressure-relief procedure, flush with the approved cleaner and clean filters, tip and guard. Use the specified storage protection. Do not apply a universal temperature range: follow the coating’s air, surface, moisture and weather limits.
