how much oil should I add into the diaphragm pump sprayer
The hydraulic oil quantity for a diaphragm airless sprayer depends on the pump model. Identify the machine and follow its filling procedure; neither “one litre” nor “90% full” is a safe universal instruction.
Original DINO-POWER model references
The following quantities were provided in the original service article. They are reference figures for the listed versions, not a replacement for the current manual or the actual level indication on your machine. Confirm the pump revision before filling.
| Model | Original quantity reference | Original upper-level clearance reference |
|---|---|---|
| DP6818 | 0.95–1.0 L | 2–3 mm |
| DP6820 | 0.8–0.9 L | 5–10 mm |
| DP6825 / DP6830 / DP6835 | 1.0 L | 10 mm |
| DP6845 / DP6800 | 1.1 L | 3 mm |
The earlier article did not fully define the measurement position for these clearances. Do not measure from an arbitrary filler edge or use the clearance as a universal dipstick specification. Ask for the correct drawing or level-check procedure if the machine has no clearly identified indicator.
Which oil should be used?
The original guidance specifies No. 46 anti-wear hydraulic oil for these pump examples. Confirm the required viscosity grade, oil specification and ambient-temperature range in the model instructions. Hydraulic oil is not paint thinner, engine oil or pump throat lubricant. Avoid mixing unknown oils; use a clean container and keep dirt and water out of the reservoir.
How to check before adding oil
- Relieve fluid pressure, switch off, isolate power and allow the machine to cool.
- Place the equipment in the orientation specified for the level check. Clean around the filler before opening it.
- Read the correct sight glass, dipstick or service-level reference. Establish whether the unit is empty, partly filled or already at its operating level.
- Add the specified oil gradually. Do not pour the full reference quantity into a partly filled reservoir.
- Close the filler correctly and perform any prescribed hydraulic bleeding and startup checks. Recheck the level as instructed.
Why both low oil and overfilling matter
Insufficient oil can disrupt hydraulic operation. Overfilling removes the expansion space the pump design needs and can lead to overflow or other operating problems. A falling level, foaming, water contamination or paint in the oil requires investigation rather than repeated topping up.
Oil was drained for transport—can I start the sprayer?
Confirm the shipping condition first. Do not run an empty hydraulic circuit or assume every shipment was drained. If the machine runs but will not prime after filling, follow the diaphragm sprayer suction troubleshooting guide.
Identify your machine in the diaphragm airless sprayer range and provide its nameplate, pump revision and level-indicator photo when requesting the correct oil procedure.
