Paint JOTUN Fireproof Coating with DP-340TK SFRM Sprayer Machine

Before using a DP-340TK with a Jotun fire-protection coating, identify the exact coating and obtain its approved application requirements. “SteelMaster” is a product family, and a pumping demonstration does not establish a complete approved fire-protection system.

Confirm the material—not only the brand

The original article described a waterborne acrylic intumescent product but did not consistently identify a full product designation. Do not apply its quoted thicknesses, mixing time, drying period or fire rating to every SteelMaster product. Use the current technical data sheet, application guide, safety data sheet and project specification for the named formulation.

Match the DP-340TK configuration

Review the DP-340TK sprayer specification with the coating supplier and equipment team. Confirm pump delivery under load, wetted materials, hose diameter and length, gun or lance, nozzle and filter requirements. The designation SFRM does not mean every cementitious and intumescent product uses the same setup.

A machine being able to convey material is only the first check. It must also apply the coating in the permitted condition and film build without damaging its performance.

Prepare steel and the specified primer system

Complete the required fabrication and surface preparation before coating. Confirm the approved primer, its condition, thickness and recoat window. Resolve contamination, sharp edges and defects using the project procedure. Do not assume an arbitrary primer is compatible because it appears dry.

Mix and spray to the actual application guide

  1. Condition and mix the coating using the specified equipment, speed and duration.
  2. Thin only where explicitly permitted and within the stated allowance.
  3. Prime the equipment using an approved fluid and prevent that fluid contaminating the coating.
  4. Set up a trial area and verify atomisation, flow and permitted wet-film thickness.
  5. Record conditions and application results before proceeding with production.

Keep substrate temperature, humidity, dew-point margin and exposure within the coating’s requirements. Do not treat a generic five-minute mix or 48-hour overcoat period as universal.

Verify the required protection

Required intumescent dry-film thickness depends on the specified design and loading schedule for each steel member. The coating system, substrate preparation, primer, thickness, curing and any topcoat must all meet the project requirements. The sprayer itself does not confer a fire rating.

Use appropriate wet- and dry-film inspection, record defects and complete repairs under the approved procedure. Clean the equipment promptly with the prescribed cleaner and storage method.
