There is nothing more frustrating than your airless paint sprayer not working. The paint pump is the thing that is supposed to make your job easier. However it has to draw paint and prime properly before it can work.
Inlet Valve Ball (parts No.: X6817)
The inlet valve ball can get things in it that the rock catcher won’t stop. This will totally stop the prime. The Fix – There are two fixes depending on the severity of what got the inlet ball to not seat properly. One is that you can simply give the bottom of the fluid section a couple good taps when it’s running. A few rounds of good taps with a hammer will usually do it. If that won’t do it you may have a clump of dried up paint from the the sprayer. To fix this you will have to remove the inlet valve. This is done by removing the suction hose and then the inlet valve from the fluid pump and unscrewing it. In there you will find a ball and spring (X6817 X6816). Both items can be removed by screwdriver. Then of course a good cleaning will help you out.
If the ball and seats on your airless sprayer are in good condition you should also check the suction hose. If the suction hose has a hole in it or is not tightly secure to the airless paint spraying machine may not be sealed and as a result may suck air in while trying to pick up material. This can lead to the system not pressurizing well. You will usually be able to tell if this is happening because you will hear the pump running rapidly but pressure will not build well.
V-packing (parts No.: X6810)
This problem is obvious because it really the only problem that happens gradually. If you have run quite a bit of paint through the system you might need to replace some common wear parts including v-packing. Having problems regularly with your pump is indicative of just some good maintenance is needed. Now this really can depend on what you are running through your airless paint pump but you can figure anywhere between 200 and 500 gallons of paint. Thicker paints and cheap paints with sediment are all things that will destroy v-packing quicker.
